TechRadar Verdict

As an entire suite of useful tools, Glary Utilities is a system maintenance software that you’ll return to time and again, and it deserves a spot on any office PC.

Pros

  • + Over 30 useful tools
  • + Great Software Update function

Cons

  • - Automatic maintenance requires a subscription
  • - Somewhat dated interface

Glary Utilities is a system performance optimization tool that aims to be a one-stop solution for improving your PC's speed and reliability. It can help you diagnose and fix registry errors, remove spyware, and protect your privacy, all with just the click of a button.

In our Glary Utilities review, we evaluate whether it’s one of the best system utilities and repair software for business PCs on the market today.

Plans and pricing

Glary Utilities is available as a free download for non-commercial use. A subscription for Glary Utilities Pro costs $19.97 per year for up to three PCs. There’s a 90-day money-back guarantee.

The free version of Glary Utilities includes most of the features of the Pro version, which only adds scheduled maintenance checks, the erasure of privacy tracks on Windows logoff or shutdown, automatic update checks, and free technical support. But without the Pro version of the software, you can’t turn on the deep clean and fix option that finds even more temporary files to remove.

Features

Glary Utilities includes nearly 30 different tools for the maintenance and optimization of your computer.

Like most system optimization tools, Glary Utilities has a button you can click that attempts to fix the most common problems that your computer may have. It has a Registry Cleaner, Shortcuts Fixer, Spyware Remover, Disk Repair, Tracks Eraser, Temporary File Cleaner, and Startup Manager, all rolled into one. If any problems are found, you can browse through them to see what Glary Utilities intends to do when you press Repair Problems.

Glary Utilities is a treasure trove of other useful functions that you never knew you needed. Some tools help you find duplicate files and empty folders, and others let you manage the entries in your system’s context menu and programs on your computer. You can defrag your disks, optimize your RAM, and back up your system drivers. The Software Update tool informs you when new versions of your installed software are available, and there’s a great Disk Space Analyzer tool that will find the pesky files eating up your hard disk space.

Interface and in use

Glary Utilities has a refreshingly simple interface. Many system maintenance and optimization tools have pointless widgets to make it appear as if they’re doing something more impressive than they are. Glary Utilities is all business. It does have basic skinning support, so you can choose the colors and background of the application, but it always looks professional.

The tools, on the whole, work great. The files cleaner found over a gigabyte of temporary files to remove, which is on par with the rest of our testing. The Startup Manager of Glary Utilities is excellent, showing you a breakdown of all the startup programs, scheduled tasks, plugins, application services, and Windows services that might be slowing down the boot time of your computer. It lists how many seconds each item is adding to your load time and details of what the program or task does. Even the Update Manager tool works well, identifying 23 applications on our test computer that could be updated.

Support

Glarysoft has a comprehensive FAQ and Knowledge Base for Glary Utilities. Besides the useful, well-written articles with screenshots, there’s a General Feedback forum for highlighting issues or giving feedback.

You can also email the Glarysoft support team through the website. We received replies to our queries within 12 hours. However, technical support is only officially available for the paid version of the software.

The competition

IObit Advanced SystemCare Free is another comprehensive PC optimization tool. It has a more modern interface, and its one-click Scan found more issues with our test computer than Glary Utilities did. It also has a neat Performance Monitor gadget with metrics on how your PC is performing.

CCleaner Business Edition is a paid system maintenance utility that’s easy to use. It does a particularly good job of cleaning up temporary and redundant files to help speed up Windows. Like Glary Utilities, the paid edition includes the ability to schedule scans in advance or kick in only when it detects that it is needed.

Final verdict

Glary Utilities isn’t as flashy as some other system maintenance and tune-up tools, but once you’ve accustomed yourself to the interface, you realize that it has many useful features that most of its competitors neglect.

It mostly excels at giving you control over what type of scan to perform and what to do with the reports generated. For example, most system tune-up tools include a registry repair feature, but Glary Utilities breaks down the reported problems into groups and describes why the entry has been flagged as an issue, making it easier for you to decide what to do. It’s this extra level of depth that makes Glary Utilities an excellent choice for computer owners who know their way around their PCs and want to carefully manage the changes made by a tune-up app.

Simpler one-click-fixes-all solutions exist, but if you’re willing to spend a little time learning all the tools in Glary Utilities, it’s a Swiss army knife that you’ll find useful time and again.

13 Best Free Defrag Software Tools

Defraggler

What We Like

  • Defrags can be run automatically on a schedule

  • Can run a defrag during reboot

  • You can defrag specific files and folders

  • Data can be excluded from the defrag

  • Can be run directly from Explorer

  • Lets you move lesser-used fragmented files to the very end of the drive

  • Might be confusing if you don't want to deal with all the extra options

  • Doesn't support idle defragging

  • Installs another program unless you uncheck that option during setup

  • No update since 2018

Our Review of Defraggler

Piriform's Defraggler tool is easily the best free defrag software program out there. It can defrag the data or just the free space of an internal or external drive. You also have the option of defragmenting specific files or folders and nothing more.

Defraggler can run a boot time defrag, check a drive for errors, empty the Recycle Bin before defragging, exclude certain files from a defrag, run an idle defrag, and selectively move lesser-used files to the end of the drive to speed up disk access.

Defraggler is also available in a portable version for flash drives.

If the Piriform company sounds familiar, you may already be familiar with their very popular free CCleaner (system cleaning) or Recuva (data recovery) software.

Defraggler can be installed on Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP.

During setup, uncheck Try Google Chrome before installing Defraggler if you don't want to install the Chrome browser along with this program.

  • A defrag can run while the computer is booting up

  • Files you access often can be moved to faster parts of the drive

  • A portable version is available

  • Can clean up the drive before the defrag to speed it up

What We Don't Like

  • Some of the features are only usable if you pay

  • Can't defrag automatically when the computer is idle

  • Setup might attempt to install another program

Our Review of Smart Defrag

Smart Defrag is great when it comes to scheduling an automatic defrag since there are some very specific advanced settings.

It supports running a defrag on a schedule as well as using boot time defrags to remove fragments from locked files.

Smart Defrag can also exclude files and folders from a defrag/analysis, replace Windows Disk Defragmenter, defrag just Windows Metro Apps, and skip defragging files that are over a certain file size.

Also included is a feature which removes junk files in Windows and Internet Explorer. It also clears cache files in other parts of Windows that could help speed up a defrag.

Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP users are able to install and use Smart Defrag.

Auslogics Disk Defrag

What We Like

  • Free for personal and commercial use

  • Updates often

  • Files and folders can be excluded from a defrag

  • Important system files can be moved to the faster part of the drive

  • Lets you disable the ads

What We Don't Like

  • Boot-time defrags aren't available for free

  • Unable to move custom files to the end of the hard drive

  • Tries to install several unrelated programs during setup

  • Scheduling isn't free

With Auslogics Disk Defrag, system files, which are normally commonly used files, can be configured to be moved to faster areas of a disk to improve launch times and general system performance.

You can also check a drive for errors with chkdsk and exclude files/folders from a defrag.

It works with Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP.

Puran Defrag

What We Like

  • Can defrag when the computer is idle

  • Able to move commonly used files to the faster part of the hard drive

  • Supports scheduled defrags

  • Includes an option to run a defrag during boot up

  • Defragmenting can start from the file/folder level

  • Can also check the HDD for errors

What We Don't Like

  • Doesn't show all the fragmented files (only the top 10)

  • There isn't a portable option

  • Setup might attempt to install another program

  • The results after analyzing the drive are hard to read

  • Free space defrags can't be run manually (only scheduled)

  • An updated hasn't been released since 2016

Puran Defrag features a custom optimizer called Puran Intelligent Optimizer (PIOZR) to intelligently move common files to the outer edge of a disk to speed up access to those files.

Like some of the other programs from this list, this one can defrag files and folders from the Windows Explorer right-click context menu, delete custom files/folders before a defrag is launched, and run boot time defrags.

There are very specific scheduling options available in Puran Defrag like running an automatic defrag every so many hours, when the system goes idle, or when the screensaver starts.

Particular schedules can also be set up for boot time defrags like running it on the first computer boot up of the day, on the first of the week, or the first time your computer boots up every month.

One thing we don't like about this tool is that it tries to install additional programs during setup.

It's said to be compatible with Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP, and Windows Server 2008 and 2003.

Download Puran Defrag

Disk SpeedUp

What We Like

  • Lots of defrag settings that you can tweak

  • Can defrag when the computer idles

  • Exclusions can be set up so as to not be defragged

  • Defrags can be run while the computer is starting up

  • Files you don't use often can be moved to the slower parts of the disk

  • Lets you set up a defragmenting schedule

What We Don't Like

  • Doesn't integrate itself into Explorer to make it easier to defrag files/folders

  • Might try to install another program during setup

Disk SpeedUp is another free defrag program that can defrag not only whole hard drives but also individual files and folders. You can also run an automatic defrag when the system has been idle for a particular number of minutes.

This program has very specific settings. For example, you can disable defrags if files have fragments that are smaller than 10 MB, have more than three fragments, and are larger than 150 MB. All of these values can be customized.

You can also configure this defrag tool to automatically move large, unused, and/or files of a certain format to the end of the drive so the commonly used, smaller ones end up toward the beginning, hopefully improving access times.

In addition to the above, Disk SpeedUp can exclude files and folders from a whole system defrag, run a boot time defrag, turn off the computer when a defrag has completed, and run defrags/optimizations on one or more drives on a daily/weekly/monthly schedule.

This program was designed for Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP, and Windows Server 2003. It should also work just fine in newer versions of Windows, like Windows 11 and 10.

Download Disk SpeedUp

Disk SpeedUp might try to install other Glarysoft programs during setup, but you can easily uncheck anything you don't want.

Toolwiz Smart Defrag

What We Like

  • Very simple and easy-to-use interface

  • Shows how many files are fragmented

  • Moves archives to the slower parts of the drive to speed up access to other files

What We Don't Like

  • Very outdated; hasn't been updated since 2015

  • Doesn't support scheduled defrags

  • Doesn't show the level of fragmentation on the whole drive

  • Can't customize anything

  • Might not work for you in Windows 11/10

Toolwiz Smart Defrag is a small program that installs quickly and has a spotless, minimal interface. It claims to be 10 times quicker than the default defrag tool included in Windows, and can place archive files to a different part of the drive to speed up access to regular files.

You're able to see the number of fragmented files from an analysis and run a defrag really quickly, though you can't see the level of fragmentation that exists on a drive, nor can you schedule defragments to run at a later date.

Though it's nice to have a program that isn't packed full of buttons and other toolbars, it's also sometimes unfortunate. For instance, there are zero features that you can customize.

If you're looking for a program that's super simple to use and isn't bogged down with confusing settings or buttons, this program is absolutely perfect.

This program officially works in Windows 7, Vista, and XP. We were able to use it just fine in Windows 8 as well.

O&O Defrag Free Edition

What We Like

  • Defrags can run each time the screensaver comes on

  • Supports scheduled defragging

  • Scheduled defrags can be set to not run if fragmentation is too low

  • The really large system restore point files are moved to slower parts of the disk to increase performance for other files

  • Produces extremely detailed hard drive reports

What We Don't Like

  • Doesn't work with Windows 11, 10, or 8

  • Some features are not free to use, so you'll be prompted to buy the full version

  • Doesn't let you exclude files from defragmentation

  • Can't defragment removable hard drives

  • Unable to defrag during boot up

O&O Defrag Free Edition has an organized and easy to use interface. It supports common features found in similar defrag software, like optimizing a drive, viewing a list of all the fragmented files, and checking a drive for errors.

In addition to scheduling defrags on a weekly basis, you can also configure O&O Defrag Free Edition to start a defrag automatically when the screensaver comes on.

You can optionally run through a Quick configuration wizard to easily set up scheduling or immediately optimize a drive.

Some features are only available in the paid version of O&O Defrag, which means you'll sometimes try to enable a setting only to be told you can't because you're using the free version, which can get irritating.

O&O Defrag Free Edition is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, and XP. We tested the most recent version in Windows 10 and Windows 8 but wasn't able to get it up and running.

Download O&O Defrag Free Edition

UltraDefrag

What We Like

  • Includes advanced options but they're hidden away for beginners

  • Can check a hard drive for errors

  • It defrags both internal and external hard drives

  • Lets you defragment individual files and folders, not just entire HDDs

What We Don't Like

  • Advanced changes require you to edit a configuration file

  • Scheduled defrags are hard to turn on

  • Last updated in early 2020

UltraDefrag can be used for novice and advanced users alike — there are common features that everyone can use but also advanced options if you need to make specific changes to the program.

Common functions like repairing, defragging, and optimizing drives are as simple as any of these other programs. However, if you wish to make changes to the program in general or to the boot time defrag option, you have to know how to maneuver around a BAT file.

UltraDefrag is said to run in Windows 8, 7, Vista, and XP only, but we were also able to use it in Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Download UltraDefrag

MyDefrag

What We Like

  • Includes plenty of advanced options

  • Works "out of the box" for people who don't want to customize anything

  • The interface is really simple and to the point

  • Able to defrag removable drives and internal ones

What We Don't Like

  • Can be much harder to use than similar programs

  • Doesn't work from within Explorer like some defrag tools

  • Last updated in 2010

MyDefrag (formerly JkDefrag) can be both a simple and a rather complex defrag program depending on your needs.

It works be loading and running scripts on one or more drives. Several scripts are included when you first install it, like to defrag on a schedule, analyze a drive, and consolidate free space. The default install is just fine for regular users.

More advanced users can build their own custom scripts, which can actually be very detailed to deeply customize the way MyDefrag works. Information about creating scripts can be found in the online manual.

MyDefrag hasn't been updated since 2010, so it only officially supports Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2000, Server 2008, and Server 2003. However, it still works with newer versions of Windows, like Windows 11, 10, and 8.

Download MyDefrag

SpeeDefrag

What We Like

  • Helps the built-in Disk Defragmenter tool run more quickly

  • Very simple to use with easy-to-understand options

  • Lets you defrag the drive even if there's little free space remaining

What We Don't Like

  • Only relevant for users running Windows Vista or XP

  • Doesn't include common features found in most defrag tools

  • Depending on the defrag option you choose, all of your open programs and files will promptly shut down

  • Tries to install another program during setup

SpeeDefrag isn't actually a defrag program in and of itself. Instead, it shuts down everything you're using except for the built-in defragmenting program provided by Windows (listed below).

The purpose of SpeeDefrag is to speed up the regular defrag functions of Windows Disk Defragmenter. By shutting down unnecessary programs, it can utilize more system resources to make the defrag tool run quicker.

After installing SpeeDefrag, you're given a few options for how you want the task to run. For instance, you can choose to restart and run a defrag and then restart again automatically, or just to run a defrag and then shut down the computer.

Download SpeeDefrag

Some features are only available in operating systems prior to Windows 7, such as restarting before a defrag and shutting down open programs. This means that this program is really only useful for Windows Vista and XP.

Disk Defragmenter

What We Like

  • Built-in to Windows; no installation necessary

  • Easy to use

  • Can run defrags on a schedule

  • Defrags internal and external drives

What We Don't Like

  • Can't defragment locked files (i.e., no boot time defrag option)

  • Finding the program is different depending on your version of Windows

How to Defrag Your Windows Computer

Disk Defragmenter is the defrag program that already exists in Windows, which means you don't need to download anything to use it. You can set schedules and defragment both internal and external hard drives.

Many of the other defrag programs from this list have many advantages over Disk Defragmenter, such as boot time defrags and optimization features. If using this program, we suggest you couple it with the SpeeDefrag program from above.

Disk Defragmenter can be opened from Administrative Tools in the Control Panel (called Windows Tools in Windows 11). For Windows 7 and older versions of Windows, it can be found through the start menu by navigating to All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter.

It's also available from the command line with the defrag command.

Baidu PC Faster's Disk Defrag

What We Like

  • Very easy to use

  • Defrags internal and external drives

  • Can defragment multiple drives consecutively

  • Includes lots of other, non-defrag tools

What We Don't Like

  • Missing standard features like scheduling

  • The other included mini programs are overwhelming if you need just the defrag tool

  • The program no longer gets updated

Baidu Disk Defrag is a tool provided by Baidu PC Faster, which is a system optimizer program. While it's quick and super easy to use, it doesn't provide any custom or advanced features like scheduling or boot time defrags.

After analyzing one or more drives, you can select all of them at once so that it will defragment the first one, then the second, and so on.

Open the defrag program from Toolbox > Disk Defrag.

Baidu's PC Faster tool should work with Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP.

Wise Care 365

What We Like

  • Supports optimizing and defragmenting the drive

  • Lets you enable an automatic shutdown for when the defrag finishes

  • There's a portable option

  • Includes other programs you might like

What We Don't Like

  • Can't defrag on a schedule

  • There are lotsof other programs in addition to the defrag tool

  • Won't defragment locked files

Our Review of Wise Care 365

Wise Care 365 is a collection of system utilities that scans for privacy issues and junk files. One of the tools, in the System Tuneup tab, is used for defragmenting a hard drive.

Select the drive to defragment and then choose Defragment, Full Optimization or Analyze. You can optionally shut down the computer after the defrag has finished. Scheduling defrags with Wise Care 365 is not supported.

A portable version is available from within the program (this is explained in the review).

Something we don't like is that a small advertisement about the full version of the program is always displayed in Wise Care 365. Also, some features and options are only available in the professional version.

Wise Care 365 can be installed on Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP.

How to repair a Windows system that got stuck at Glary Utilities' BootDefragDriver.sys while booting

Using a Linux Live USB I realized that wasn't even there. Copying it from another system and re-booting didn't help.

So, I checked the configuration of the other system and found two Registry keys:

These entries appear/disappear, as well as the aforementioned , if you activate/deactivate Glary Utilities' Boot Defrag/Optimization.

So, the next task was to edit the Registry from outside Windows. I remembered having used a Linux command line tool for this in the past but before I recalled its name to be able to search for it I stumbled across:

AVG Rescue CD GNU/Linux (ARL) (ISO for CD and USB)

(The german download page mentions that it's from 2016 and there are other alternatives that are recommended.)

This tool is GREAT! It starts a COW-based application that includes a Registry Utility amongst others (if you prefer shell one-liners, or , simply it).

AVG Rescue CD GNU/Linux (ARL)

Be sure to run the USB version's as Administrator, otherwise the USB drive will not be bootable (though the setup says so at the end). You need an USB drive with at least 1.5 GiB free space.

Note: Apparently the Registry Utility is only able to work with the partition mounted first. If you happen to have more than one Windows partition, like me, and the one of interest isn't mounted as the first, exit the tool and perform, for example:

Restart the tool with (it tells you so at exiting).

BE EXTREMLY(!) CAREFUL when selecting the keys to be removed with 's Registry Utility. When you select and hit , it's done! There is NO CONFIRMATION OF ANY KIND and NO UNDO.

After removing the aforementioned keys in all s:

the system started normally again.

Next steps are to invoice Glarysoft with the $ 1,000 I lost spending an entire day with this and to remove it from every system I get hands on in the future and never install it anywhere again.

Please leave a comment below if the link to doesn't work again as it happened in the past.

Glary Utilities Review

Detailed Reviews

With so much content being transferred to-and-fro, be it from the internet or other internal applications, our system can become a huge mess over time.

This can result in a laggy computer device with too many bugs and storage space issues. This can be attributed to the useless files filled in the system over time, virus infections, registry errors, fish market in the system memory, and so.

To optimize our machine from these things, we need to have some tools that can augment multiple areas like above. Such tools already exist and are better known as System Optimizers.

Like their names, their leading goal is to clean the useless files from the system folders, repair registry, and do other things to increase the performance of the devices.

Pros

  • One-click maintenance feature capable of cleaning the junk from the system closet.
  • Helps manage Windows registry errors and storage space issues.
  • Enhanced privacy protection features like history removal, file shredder, file encryption, etc.
  • It comes with anti-malware, too for removing infectious files from the system.
  • Most tools are quite detailed, and so the optimization is in-depth.
  • Decent support The pricing is inexpensive too.

Cons

  • The UI is a bit dull. Most functions are clustered in one place, which can be put in much better ways like other top products.
  • The scan scheduler can benefit from a few more functions. Also, there was a minor lag in the system when full optimization was going on.

Introduction

Among many such tools, we are now armed with Glarysoft’s Glary Utilities Pro.  Over the course of the year, many such system optimizers have been launched, and there is a constant struggle on the level of personalization and system maintenance they provide.

Glary Utilities Pro had an early launch in 2009, after which, Glarysoft came with so many updates in quick succession and version 2.20 in the year 2010 being the first stable release.

They have aided this tool with options to clean and repair files & registry, security and privacy settings, files and folders, and other administrative tools.

Although the names seem unfamiliar to many people, this product has been reaping good customer base. Owing to a standalone UI for many things, it can efficiently work on a messy system and improve its performance.

For this review, Glary Utilities Pro is to be assessed. This tool comes with a 30-day trial version too. There is no need for any email activation or anything, which is excellent.

Some of the tools like Ashampoo WinOptimizer took email registration for such a trial license. In a hack, all the personal info was drained, affecting many free users. This makes such a question-free trial version much better option for novice/free users who also want to keep their info secured.

Let us see through Glarysoft’s system optimizer tool.

Installation and Launch Configurations

As we said, Glary Utilities Pro has a full-fledged trial version without any type of data collection. The trial mode is already activated as you install the tool after downloading it from the main website.

Once launched, the application will ask to get the license activated. After that, we are directed to the main screen.

The entire UI of Glary Utilities Pro is divided into three tabs only. It includes an Overview Tab, 1-Click Maintenance, and Advanced Tools. The only thing that can be changed here apart from general settings is the color scheme.

The Overview Tab, like a simple info generator, displays software info. This includes the version and subscription status of the tool. You can see the last Windows boot time, maintenance prompts, updates, etc.

There isn’t much to be seen here. Comparing this to other tools like Advanced SystemCare, System Mechanic, and WinOptimizer, the central panel in all of them consists of a quick scan button.

Unlike them, GUP has given 1-Click Maintenance separately. This is similar to the 1-click scan features given in other tools. This initial scan includes checking various areas of your device for junk files and additional errors.

A few of the popular ones in the optimization list are registry repair, disk repair, shortcut fixes, temp files removal, and general cleanup stuff.

Check all the items and proceed for the scan. It will take about 5-10 minutes, depending on how much the storage space is filled and how many issues were present before the scan.

After that, you can review individual reports of the item mentioned above. Each of them has checkboxes to select or deselect the items found in the scan.

4-settings

Although the UI looks dull compared to popular tools, it was able to provide the same level of optimization. Regardless of the looks, it was quickly able to accomplish the task.

One of the biggest concern with such tools is that they even pseudo scan files in the system. This can spoof many results in a scan. Also, some of the tools do not even clean the amount of junk they show.

GUP notifies with a warning message to close the current apps before cleaning them. This was not seen in tools like Ashampoo WinOptimizer, who missed cleaning junk from browsers like Chrome, while they were running.

Nevertheless, the main idea is that such optimization apps must remove trash files properly without any hassle, in which case, GUP passed. The last tab is for accessing Advanced Tools.

These tools are made for individual optimization features related to security, privacy, storage, power, installed apps, etc. We’ll be reviewing them too later in the article.

5-one_click

The bottom of the GUP setup includes commonly used icons or quick access buttons. It won’t include all functions seen in the advanced menu, but only the ones that need to be focused on.

With this, we conclude the initial runover of the GUP interface. Even though it possesses such a meek UI, they’ve still supplied most functions seen in system optimizers. None of the tools in use had any issues.

It’s time now to access the advanced features and evaluate them.

Exploring Advanced Optimization Functions in Glary Utilities

Being a system optimizer, little junk cleanup isn’t enough. Many areas need to be addressed if they want to accomplish a thorough optimization.

These areas may be OS registry, temp files, system settings, which affect system performance. To access them in Glary Utilities Pro, head to the Advanced Tools section.

Windows Registry

This is the part where all the registry files are going to be optimized. Issues with registry can slow down the system and even results in crashing applications if there are conflicting.

To counter that, we need to remove old program files and even check the registry associations. This is done automatically using the registry scanner.

The leading 4 solutions to repair here are registry, defrag, remove, and backup/restore. Relatively, these functions are universal. In the first option, registry repair, they scan the entire system for any issues in registry files.

6-registry

It covers a quick scan as well as an advanced scan feature, depending on the necessity. We checked our system using the advanced scan, and it took about only 5 minutes for the entire process. This shows that the program is quite fast.

After the scan commences, you can see the list of all lousy registry entries appearing on the screen. After the completion, you can choose to auto repair them or manually do so via Windows Regedit, and even add them to exception lists.

There is a backup tool too. In case the software screws something while repairing these registry files, you can always restore it to the previous version.

Now, just like the data on a storage drive fragments it and occupy unnecessary space, registry files can affect the drive similarly. To check and repair it, we can use the registry defragment tool. Running it will need you to close all the running apps.

Backup/Restore of registry files is mostly for cautionary steps. In any scenario, tampering with registry files, and that too if they are system-critical files, it can ruin many things. To prevent that, we need to backup them, and if needed, we can restore them to revert things to the original model.

Overall, it is a traditional and straightforward registry optimizer — nothing too shabby here.

Managing Disk Space with Variety of Apps

One of the most common causes of system slowdown is too much-filled storage space. It is not necessary that these files have to be junk files. It is needed to reduce the files in storage, defrag the storage disk to increase disk performance.

For that, Glary Utilities is added with some noteworthy tools. These tools are used to clean up junk, remove duplicates or empty folders or broken shortcuts, and lastly disk explorer to check storage space distribution.

In the first step, i.e., Cleanup, we are given a choice to clean junk of Windows’ files, browsers, and other applications. Select the checkboxes in each of these sections to choose what you want to remove. Rescan after that and then use the cleaner button.

7-disk_clean

Most of the time, unless you have overcrowded your disk with multiple programs and files, this works like a charm. We can even export these files, check their location and properties, and then decide to clean them.

The scanning and cleaning process is pretty fast. It will even close the hindering apps on its own. Next is Duplicate Finder. Duplicate files are too frustrating. Let us check what setup Glary offers to deal with them.

The process is also straightforward. Select a drive to check for duplicate files, select the criteria to link as in size, name, date of creation, etc., and then analyze that drive. All the duplicate pairs will be shown after the scan, and you can remove the unwanted ones.

Next is the Empty Folder Scan. Note that an empty folder may not affect your storage, but still, it does qualify as junk. This tool will let you remove all the empty folders.

8-duplicates

Similarly, we can even remove broken shortcuts. Lastly, we can work with the Disk Space Analyzer. Many of us who use a computer regularly, might have used this program at least once in a lifetime, to determine which files or folders are occupying most space.

It can be a troublesome job if we keep going to each folder and check its properties. To ease that, we can use this disk analyzer tool. As it says, disk analyzers will give graphical as well as statistical data of a drive’s storage distribution.

We can view a pie chart, file and folder list, and even individual extension files. This is a sophisticated disk analyzer with proper UI. Even top tools like System Mechanic, WinOptimizer, IObit Advanced SystemCare have this feature.

With this, we end the features for disk management in Glary Utilities Pro.

Monitor System Status and Tweak System Settings

As far as we can see, junk removal is over. Now, everything must be okay. Well, it’s not always true. Even with all these optimizations, there are chances that any third party program might change individual settings.

9-monitor

For that reason, we need to learn what settings are useful and which are redundant. But then how many settings will you learn. Instead of that, we can use this program that can save settings and configurations.

For that, Glary Utilities Pro is equipped with both a system monitor and a settings tweaker tool. One is to monitor the health and status of the device and others to change or restore the altered settings.

In the System Tweak, memory free-up and browser assistant is also given. In the System Monitor, we have standard system backup/restore, file system repairer, and so.

The trick is that they use inbuilt features of Windows like process optimizer, restore and backup utility, repair file system operations, etc. They haven’t even touched many of these tools and just redirected them.

10-recovery

Tools like Advanced SystemCare, System Mechanic, etc. have given much better system analyzer and optimizer functions than this. The inbuilt OS tools have their issues. But still, it is far better than other optimizer types.

Even the browser assistant is quite decent. There is nothing too exhilarating in this section. But still, based on the deduction after using them, it’s a nice feature indeed.

Maintain Security and Privacy of your System

Another critical thing that needs to be kept in check for a perfect lag-free system is to use anti-virus and a privacy enhancer tool. Unlike the old days, privacy is a much more significant concern in this tech world, given that intelligence agencies and programs like PRISM constantly monitor us.

Predominantly, we don’t want this data to fall in the hands of malicious users. To prevent that, we will tweak the privacy settings and also use an anti-malware to fight infections.

The Malware Removal Tool is a portable anti-malware. Nothing much engaging except a scan button and a remove button. There is no option for quarantining files. The only choice is to delete them or restore the ones found in the scan.

Overall, for mid-end malwares, it can definitely work. But for bigger and complex ones, you will have to use better anti-malwares. The privacy tool has everyday items like history remover, file shredder, free space wiper, and file encryption.

11-privacy

Regardless, let’s try these aspects. Browser history removal is an old school delete history button. File shredder works like a real-life paper shredder. It can securely delete a file based on American DOD 5220.22-M, cultivated by US Defense Department.

Or else, we can use drive wiper tool too. However, the later one will take a long time. Lastly, one of the best methods to protect data is to use encryption.

Once again, Glary Utilities Pro has allocated us a meek interface. Simply pick a file/folder, input the master password, and begin the encryption. We can even set a self-destruct feature on an encrypted file, in case someone inputs random password X-times.

All in all, Glarysoft has kept in mind the simple tools needed for a complete system overhaul. In our experience, we did encounter some lag in the above functions.

Manage Installed Programs and Update Drivers

When it comes to software issues, installed programs, system processes, and even drivers can cause tons of problems. Most of the performance issues apart from the storage space problems lies here.

12-programs

To deal with it, our general aim must be to install fewer programs in the system and also keep updating the drivers to the latest version. Both will require some hefty time, and so it is better to assess them in free time.

We will still leave some useful reviews about them here. In the Program Manager, we have an uninstaller, updater, and the software downloader. Unlike Windows’ Program and Features section, this one is much better.

From typical uninstall option to property customization, it even has a decent sorting tab to detect new programs, large programs, recent updates, etc. It also supports batch uninstall.

13-uninstall

For updating and maintaining programs and drivers, there is a separate function in it. The software updater will search the installed products on your system and compare the version online. The programs without any update are prompted to be updated quickly.

Alike this, system drivers can be saved/restored and even removed or updated directly. Fantastic feature, isn’t it?

Hard Disk and File Management System

Although storage management has been discussed already, we have one more tool left to optimize the storage.

You might ponder that what else is left to optimize in our disks? Glary Utilities Pro supports disk defragment, disk error checking, file splitter, backup/restore files, and a quick search function.

14-defrag

Most of these are interconnected. Over time, hard disks can get fragmented, and this may result in slow response speed due to many clusters being randomly organized. Defragment allows us to re-configure them, thereby increasing the disk performance.

Like every defragment tool, it can quickly analyze a disk for fragmented blocks. The results shown are in a friendly graphical UI. The disk scan and final defragment process will take time as per the disk size.

There is a unique type of defrag process here. It is the Boot De-Fragmentation. Many system files currently running a critical process can be affected by defragmentation. To avoid that, boot defragmentation is used.

In boot mode, it will do its work without any interference. Many of the current readers might have done a boot scan at least once, i.e., like in an antivirus scan, disk repair in boot mode, etc.

15-file_viewer

Talk of disk errors, we can repair that too. Check Disk tool will analyze a drive’s cluster and then repair them if possible. The scan and repair button is more than enough for novice users. Some of the issues in the drive were resolved.

We didn’t expect this tool to be much advanced than this. Next on, we have some file management tools also. One of them is File Splitter.

We can split big files into multiple parts. We can pick from preset split sizes like floppy size(1.44 MB), DVD size 4.76 GB, zip file 100 MB, or any other user-defined size.

There is no auto-size division based on the number of parts assigned, in any case. Glary Utilities Pro can add this in later updates. Lastly, we can use the Undelete Recovery to restore the deleted files.

16-disk_tools

Some of the system control apps included startup manager, service optimizer, context menu, and processes manager. All of them are simple program, and any user won’t find any trouble using it.

Final Conclusion

We have explored every tool given by Glary Utilities Pro and in full detail. Going through it has led to a straightforward conclusion. The deduction leads to the development that it is definitely a worthy product.

Initially, the sleek UI lowered our expectations. But as we went on testing it, most individual features that it provided were very detailed. The only thing it lacked was a real-time Anti-Malware, which products in this range do provide.

Compared to products like Advanced SystemCare, System Mechanic, and WinOptimizer, Glarysoft’s product has worked its way to push them away.

Overall, the costing of the subscription is reasonable, and it even gives a full month trial. The tools in it are also worth a try. With that, we advise you to try its trial edition and then judge yourself its worth. Don’t go after fancy UI as that is secondary, compared to a critical feature of system optimization.

Four Tips to Make Your PC Faster Than Ever

Out with the old, in with the… Speed! Clearing your PC of unwanted programs, temporary files, and other buildup is no longer a daunting task with our helpful guide.

What do aging movie actors and PCs have in common? They can both be returned to their youth through clever engineering.

Of course (and more seriously) it’s good to know when to retire or get a new computer. But before you give up on that aging PC just yet, we wanted to give you eight software-based solutions to make your hardware a star again.

Tip #1: Clean Out Your Hard Drive

A major cause of system slowdown is data that is no longer being used, such as old downloads and files. This includes programs that run background processes when you start your computer — even if you don’t need them. You can edit your start-up programs using tools built into Windows 7 and remove unused files manually, but programs are available that quickly and easily clean your hard drive.

The following programs can optimize your system and speed things up:

  • Glary Utilities: This free program cleans out temporary files, edits start programs and streamlines your system for optimum performance. It not only cleans and defragments your drive, but it also seeks orphan programs and files and tries to re-link them or delete them, if they can’t be linked to anything on your computer.
  • CCleaner: This free program is smaller than Glary, so it’s popular with users who have very full hard drives and systems. It doesn’t contain a defragmenting program.
  • Defraggler: A free, stand-alone defragmentation program by Piriform, CCLeaner’s manufacturer.
  • Mydefrag: A free and fast defragger that includes several ways to optimize your disk’s performance.
  • Iolo System Mechanic: This is a commercial, dedicated diagnostic and repair program that automatically identifies and fixes problems that slow your computer down.
  • Staples PC Tune Up +: We’d be remiss if we didn’t offer up our own expertise on this issue within our own article. Staples EasyTech offers a PC Tune-Up + service in a variety of locations, including in our stores, in your home or office, or even online.

Tip #2: Defragment Your Hard Drive

Once your system is clean, you should defragment your hard drive to get optimal performance. Hard drives store data, but the data eventually gets spread out all over the drive. When this happens, you will notice a performance slowdown as your hard drive searches to piece the data together. A defragmentation program moves all the data for each program to a single location, so your hard disk’s read and write speeds are quicker.

Windows 7 contains a Disk Defragmenter (located in System Tools), but third-party software provides more versatility, speed and deeper cleaning.

Remember this? Staples PC Tune Up + service is a multifaceted one that also performs disk defragmentation. The service will clean out your unnecessary files, defragment your hard drive, perform a virus scan to detect spyware and malware, and check all your start-up programs to be sure your PC is operating at its peak level. As we mentioned earlier, Staples PC Tune Up + can be run at your home, office or remotely over the Internet.

Tip #3: Get Rid of Viruses

If you want to keep your computer in peak condition, be sure it doesn’t pick up a virus. Norton 360 is a general-purpose utility program that provides robust antivirus protection, tunes up your PC and performs basic defragmenting, cloud-based backups and other maintenance tasks. If you are already infected, Norton eliminates the virus, too.

Tip #4: Use Windows 7 ReadyBoost

Windows 7 ReadyBoost enables your software to use the empty space on a flash drive or card to increase your speed. You turn this feature on or off when you plug in a drive and the Autoplay dialog appears. Choose Speed up my System in General Options, and then choose the ReadyBoost tab in Properties.

Like a good Hollywood plastic surgeon, you can revive your PC and have a few more “hits” before it’s time to retire your computer for good.

Yes, defragmenting is still a useful thing

Here Are a Few Tips for People That May Have a SSD:

Introduction
Understanding your SSD can be confusing at first, with this little run down on your SSD hardware will get you more then started. Well go over the interface followed by Program-Erase (PE) cycles and NAND Lifespan. Then show you how to preserver the lifespan of your SSD with a few simple OS tweaks.

SATA 3 (6G) Explained: SATA 3 or 6 Gbps is the most recent revision of your SATA storage unit connectors. It will increase the bandwidth on the SATA 2 controller from 3 GBit/sec towards 6 GBit/sec. For a regular HDD that is not really very important. But with the tremendous rise of fast SSD drives, this really is a large plus. Typically we get 3000 Mbit/s: 8 = 375 MB/sec bandwidth minus overhead, tolerances error-correction and random occurrences. SATA 3 is doubling it up, as such we get 6000 Mbit/sec: 8 = 750 MB/sec (again deduct overhead, tolerances error-correction and random occurrences) of available bandwidth for your storage devices.

As you can understand, with SSDs getting faster and faster that’s just a much warmed and welcomed increase of bandwidth. Put Sata III in RAID and you’ll have even more wicked performance at hand. Most motherboards offer only two ports per controller though, so you are (for now) limited to RAID 0 and RAID 1 (stripe or mirror). Also there are two controllers currently being used for mainstream, currently the Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge and Haswell platforms offer the highest performing solution. Though still fast, any platform using the Marvell 9128 or 9130 will see lower performance scores as the Marvell controllers use a PCI-Express Gen2 x1 lane interface to the system which restricts performance a little. The internal processor in that chipset also limits IOPS by the way.

What Is A P/E Cycle? A program-erase cycle is a sequence of events in which data is written to solid-state NAND flash memory cell (such as the type found in a so-called flash or thumb drive), then erased, and then rewritten. Program-Erase (PE) cycles can serve as a criterion for quantifying the endurance of a flash storage device. Flash memory devices are capable of a limited number of PE cycles because each cycle causes a small amount of physical damage to the medium. This damage accumulates over time, eventually rendering the device unusable. The number of PE cycles that a given device can sustain before problems become prohibitive varies with the type of technology.

The least reliable technology is called multi-level cell (MLC). Enterprise-grade MLC (or E-MLC) offers an improvement over MLC; the most reliable technology is known as single-level cell (SLC). Some disagreement exists in the literature as to the maximum number of PE cycles that each type of technology can execute while maintaining satisfactory performance. For TLC and MLC, typical maximum PE-cycle-per-block numbers range from 1,500 to 10,000. For E-MLC, numbers range up to approximately 30,000 PE cycles per block. For SLC, devices can execute up to roughly 100,000 PE cycles per block. Mainstream SSDs these days have 2,000 ~ 3,000 PE/cycles.

MLC VS SLC: At the beginning, memory cells stored just a single bit of information. However, the charge on the floating gate can be controlled with some level of precision, allowing to store more information than just 0 and 1. Basing on such assumption the MLC (Multi Level Cell) memory came to exist. To distinguish them, the old memory type was called SLC – Single Level Cell.

The decision of choosing between SLC or MLC is driven by many factors such as memory performance, number of target erase/program cycles and level of data reliability. The MLC memory endurance is significantly lower (around 10,000 erase/program cycles) comparing to SLC endurance (around 100,000 cycles) but with current drive wearing tricks, these SSDs might still outlive you.

So What About Newer 19nm NAND Lifespan? New <= 25nm NAND FLASH memory was introduced, designed to be cheaper. The overall lifespan of the ICs has been reduced from 10,000 towards 5,000 program/erase cycles and now hover even at 2,500 P/E cycles. As drastic as that sounds, it's all relative as this lifespan will very likely last longer than any mechanical HDD. Drive wearing protection and careful usage will help you out greatly. With an SSD filled normally and very heavy writing/usage of say 10 GB data each day 365 days a year, you'd be looking at roughly 22 full SSD write cycles per year, out of the 3000 (worst case scenario) available. However, all calculations on this matter are debatable and theoretical as usage differs and even things like how much free space you leave on your SSD can affect the drive.

I've been monitoring the usage myself. The latest NAND partition of TLC and MLC offer at the very least 2,500 P/E cycles. To give you an idea, on my main work system I use 4 P/E cycles per month. If we take 2,500 P/E cycles before cells start to die then 4×12= 48 P/E cycles per year. 2,500 P/E cycles divided by 48 P/E cycles per year could mean a life span of 52 years, but it will depend on how much you write / your workload and stress you put on the SSD. With normal to even hefty usage you should easily get 10 to 20 years out of your SSD.

Installation & Recommendations: On this page we want to share some thoughts on how to increase the lifespan and performance of your SSD. But first, the installation. Installation of an SSD drive is no different than installing any other drive. Connect the SATA and power cable, and you are good to go. Once you power on that PC of yours, the first thing you'll notice; no more noise. That by itself, is just downright weird opposed to the old fashioned spinning platters in an HDD. My system boot drive many moons ago was a WD Raptor and when that HD is crunching, you know the HDD is alive alright.

That's just no longer a reality. You will look at the SSD wondering "is that thing even working?", while the Windows 7 logo has already appeared on your monitor. So no more purring and resonating or other weird noises. Completely silent, I like that very much. The second factor you can rule out is heat. Modern day HDDs tend to get hot, or at the least quite warm. When not cooled down they can reach 40-50 Degrees C pretty easily. No worries though as the HDD can handle it, yet the SSD remains completely cool to lukewarm. Most SSD drives will get to roughly 25 Degrees C, just above room temperature. Then there's that first boot up on the SSD, weird… it's fast… really fast. That's where you'll get the first smile on your face. But let's talk about taking some precautions, remember this is an MLC based drive, we want it to last at least ten years right?

SSD Life-Span Recommendations: Drive wearing on any SSD based drive will always be a ghost in the back of your mind. Here are some recommendations and tips for a long lifespan and optimal performance. Basically, what is needed is to eliminate the HDD optimizations within Vista (that cause lots of small file writes like superfetch and prefetch), things like background HDD defragmentation (that causes lots of small file write drive activity). In short (and this is for Vista and Windows 7):

â–¸ Indexing Service or Windows Search disabled. (useless access times are so low)
â–¸ Prefetch disabled
â–¸ Superfetch disabled
â–¸ Defrag disabled

So make sure you disable prefetchers. Also, especially with Vista and windows 7, make sure you disable defragmentation on the SSD disk. You do not have a mechanical drive anymore so it is not needed, let alone you do not want defragmentation to wear out your drive, and Vista does this automatically when your PC is in idle (picking its nose). Don't get me wrong though, you could do a defrag without any problems, you just do not want that to be regular. For Superfetch/prefetchers and other services, at command prompt just type: services Use Windows 8 / 7 / Vista's services to disable them. To disable defragmentation:

Windows 8.x, 7 & Vista Automatic Defrag

â–¸ Click Start
â–¸ Click Control Panel
â–¸ Select the Control Panel Home
â–¸ Click System and Maintenance
â–¸ Under the Admin Tools section at the bottom, click Defragment your hard drive
â–¸ You may need to grant permission to open the disk defragmenter
â–¸ Click or unclick Run automatically (disable) depending if you want this feature enabled or disabled.
â–¸ Click OK

OR alternatively at the Vista start prompt just type: dfrgui

Now over time your SSD will get a little fragmented but it's NAND flash and there's no mechanical head moving back and forth to access that data so just leave it disabled.

Windows 7, 8.x & The SSD TRIM Feature: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 support the TRIM function, which the OSs use when they detect that a file is being deleted from an SSD. When the OS deletes a file on an SSD, it updates the file system but also tells the SSD via the TRIM command which pages should be deleted. At the time of the delete, the SSD can read the block into memory, erase the block, and write back only pages with data in them. The delete is slower, but you get no performance degradation for writes because the pages are already empty, and write performance is generally what you care about. Note that the firmware in the SSD has to support TRIM. TRIM only improves performance when you delete files. If you are overwriting an existing file, TRIM doesn't help and you'll get the same write performance degradation as without TRIM. In AHCI mode TRIM is activated automatically.

Enable AHCI(!) The last and great tip we want to give you to gain a little extra performance boost is that you should enable AHCI mode. AHCI mode can help out greatly in performance for SSDs. Now, if you swap out an HDD for an SSD with the operating system cloned and THEN enable AHCI in the BIOS, you'll likely get a boot error / BSOD. The common question is, is there a solution for this?

To answer that question (and as we do safely with all modern chipsets) there is a way to safely enable AHCI mode. Here we go:

â–¸ Startup "Regedit"
â–¸ Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
â–¸ Open msahci
â–¸ In the right field left click on "start" and go to Modify
â–¸ In the value Data field enter "0" and click "ok"
â–¸ exit "Regedit"

Reboot Rig and enter BIOS (typically hold "Delete" key while Booting) In your BIOS select "Integrated Peripherals" and OnChip PATA/SATA Devices. Now change SATA Mode from IDE to AHCI. You now boot into Windows 8, 7 or Vista, and the OS will recognize AHCI and install the devices. Now the system needs one more reboot and voila… enjoy the improved SSD performance.

How to Disable Superfetch and Prefetch in Windows 7 and 8

Prefetch and, since Windows Vista, Superfetch, are technologies in Microsoft Windows that can significantly improve system responsiveness by predicting which applications a user is likely to launch and preemptively loading the necessary data into memory. While essential to ensuring a smooth user experience in systems with traditional hard drives, some systems with solid state drives may not see much benefit thanks to the SSDs’ inherent performance advantage, and Prefetch/Superfetch services may actually be detrimental to SSDs in the long run due to the unnecessary writes they generate.

In Windows 7, Microsoft attempted to address this issue by automatically disabling Superfetch and Prefetch when a fast SSD was detected. In Windows 8, however, the operating system tries to analyse the performance characteristics of the system’s storage and intelligently enable or disable Superfetch/Prefetch as needed.

While most users will be fine letting Windows decide how to use Superfetch and Prefetch on its own, there are situations in which Windows may make the wrong decision, and power users will want to manually disable or enable the services. This most often occurs with non-standard configurations such as fast RAID arrays of HDDs, or mixed use of both SSDs and HDDs.

Manually Disable Superfetch: To manually disable Superfetch in Windows 8, launch the Windows Services manager by right-clicking on the Desktop Start Button, choosing Run, and typing services.msc. Alternatively, you can search for services.msc from the Start Screen.

In the Services Manager, scroll down to find Superfetch, which is controlled by the Windows service called SysMain. Double-click Superfetch to launch its Properties window and click on Stop to stop it.

This will kill the service for now, but it will restart automatically at next boot unless we tell it not to. Under the “Startup Type” drop down menu, select Disabled. Click Apply and then OK to save your changes. Close the Services Manager and reboot to have the change take effect.

Manually Disable Prefetch: After you disable Superfetch, you can disable Prefetch from the Windows Registry. Launch the Registry Editor by right-clicking on the Desktop Start Button, choosing Run, and typing regedit. Just as before, you can also launch the Registry Editor by searching for regedit on the Start Screen.

From the Registry Editor, navigate to the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters

On the right side of the window, double-click on EnablePrefetcher. You can configure Prefetch in one of four ways by entering the corresponding number in the Value Data box:

0 – Disables Prefetcher
1 – Enables Prefetch for Applications only
2 – Enables Prefetch for Boot files only
3 – Enables Prefetch for Boot and Application files

The default value is 3; setting it to 0 will disable Prefetching.

As mentioned, most users do not need to adjust Prefetch/Superfetch settings, and setting incorrect values can increase boot and application launch times significantly. But advanced users with non-standard drive configurations, or those running Windows in virtual machines, may want to exercise manual control over these important services.

  • An updated hasn't been released since 2016

Puran Defrag features a custom optimizer called Puran Intelligent Optimizer (PIOZR) to intelligently move common files to the outer edge of a disk to speed up access to those files.

Like some of the other programs from this list, glary disk defrag one can defrag files and folders from the Windows Explorer right-click context menu, delete custom files/folders before a defrag is launched, and run boot time defrags.

  • Exclusions can be set up so as to not be defragged

It should also imyfone umate pro 6.0.0.7 crack - Free Activators just fine in newer versions of Windows, like Windows 11 and 10.

Toolwiz Smart Defrag

What We Like

  • Very simple and easy-to-use interface

  • Shows how many files are fragmented

  • Moves archives to the slower parts of the drive to speed up access to other files

What We Don't Like

  • Very outdated; hasn't been updated since 2015

  • Doesn't support scheduled defrags

  • Doesn't show the level of fragmentation on the whole drive

  • Can't customize anything

  • Might not work for you in Windows 11/10

Toolwiz Smart Defrag is a small program that installs quickly and has a spotless, minimal interface. It claims to be 10 times quicker than the default defrag tool included in Windows, and can place archive files to a different part of the drive to speed glary disk defrag access to regular files.

  • Supports scheduled defragging

  • Scheduled defrags can be set to not run if fragmentation is too low

  • The really large system restore point files are moved to slower parts of the disk to increase performance for other files

UltraDefrag is said to run in Windows 8, 7, Vista, and XP only, but we were also able to use it in Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Some features are only available in operating systems prior to Windows 7, such as restarting before a defrag and shutting down open programs.

After analyzing one or more drives, you can select all of them at once so that it will defragment the first one, then the second, and so on.

What We Don't Like

  • Can't defrag on a schedule

For about a month on both my Acer and HP (they’re both about 3 years old) laptops with Windows 7 Premium, my boot would fail about 1 or two times a week sending me through the Windows repair process. I tried a lumion pro vs standard - Crack Key For U of things to no avail. Then about a month ago, I found and used a boot defragmenter tool on the advance tools section of Glary Utilities. I like and have used Glary Utilities software for several years but I’ve never defragged my boot before. For the last month, I’ve not had a single boot problem on either of my laptops. Could just using this single Glary Utility’s boot defrag tool have totally fixed my boot problems?

It’s possible, but my suspicion is that it didn’t really “fix” anything. I think it just moved things around, which ultimately is what defragging does after all. You might still have an issue that’s waiting to bite you later in a different way.

Shuffling the AOMEI Backupper 6.6.0 Crack with Keygen Free Download 2021 around

Now, I’ll admit this scenario is a little out there, since this happened on both of your machines, but I’m still going to run with it because it is something that at least makes me uncomfortable.

I believe that you may have a bad sector on your hard drive.

It’s not so bad as to fail every time, but either it’s marginally bad, or it’s going bad so that right now, at least, it fails sometimes. I also believe that some files required during boot time were actually using that sector, until those files were defragged. Defragging simply moves files, or rather, portions of files around on your hard drive so that they are physically close to one another. It’s just a speed optimization; it doesn’t change the files’ contents in any way.

So it’s quite possible that some file was in fact using that marginal sector, and after being defragged, it no longer does.

Here’s why I think you still have a problem: that marginally bad sector is still out there. Maybe it’s now occupied by a file that’s never used. Maybe it’s free and it’s available to be used, in which case, it could bite you later when perhaps an important file tries to use that sector and your marginal sector turns out to be a sector that was going bad, and then it finally does go bad completely at a really inopportune time.

What I would do in your shoes is start with a CHKDSK /R on that drive; that will perform a surface test. Hopefully, it will find that sector and either fix it or remove it from any possibility of future use.

And of course I’m making the assumption that you’re backing up regularly. Right? 🙂
